Narcissus is a youth who is beautiful and receives a lot of
love but he does not return any of it. Echo is a beautiful wood nymph in love
with Narcissus who always has the last word. Echo talks to Hera’s husband and
Hera curses her so that she can only talk when spoken to. She waits in the
woods for Narcissus and one day he calls out to her. She can’t tell him her
feelings and he tells her to leave. She runs away to a mountain and is killed
by her own grief. Narcissus continues to attract many nymphs and the gods get
tired of his behavior so they curse him so that he will know what it is like to
love someone and them not love you back. One day he comes across a puddle and
in it he sees his love. When he reaches into it the figure disappears. He sat
next to the puddle for the rest of his life and died in grief.
One of the most altruistic people that I know is my mom. She
is always self-less. She constantly puts not only my family first, but also the
kids that she teaches, her friends, and even my friends. She makes sacrifices every
day and I can’t imagine doing what she does.
