Poetry #4

Soooooo, I love music and there are many love songs that I could pick, but I definitely have to go with the Spanish song "Ave Maria" by David Bisbal. I discovered this song in AP Spanish; this year our class learns a song every now and then, and this is by far my favorite. Do not by fooled by the title, this is not a religious song--in this case Ave Maria or "hail Mary" is Bisbal figuratively worshiping a girl named Maria, not the Virgin Mary. Well, I guess it could be her, but I highly doubt it. Anyway, the very first lyrics set up the basis of the song... "Ave Maria caundo seras mía"  meaning "Ave Maria when will you be mine?" and "Si me quisiera todo te daría " meaning "If only you wanted me too, I would give you everything" show us that David Bisbal is very thirsty for a girl who does reciprocate those same feelings. The whole song is basically him begging for Mary. To do this he uses figurative language when he says "Envuelveme con tus besos Refugiame en tu guarida", translation: "Wrap me up with your kisses, give me refuge in your den". His repetition of the "Ave Maria caundo sera mia....",  depicts his desperation for her, and the whole song is written to flatter and convince Maria to be with him.
